We Visited the Ole Bolle Troll in Portland | One of Six Trolls from the NW Trolls: Way of the Bird King
We finally visited all six trolls in the NW Trolls: Way of the Bird King. The troll we hadn't visited yet was the only one not in Washington, the Ole Bolle Troll. This one is in Portland, so we checked it out during our recent trip. These whimsical and huge trolls are made out of recycled materials and are crafted by the Danish artist, Thomas Dambo. He created these public art pieces in 2023, and we've been slowly visiting all of them in this PNW collection since. We've seen the ones in Ballard, Issaquah, West Seattle, Vashon Island, and Bainbridge Island.
The Ole Bolle Troll in Portland is located twenty minutes outside of the city at the Nordic Northwest Campus. This troll is so fun because it's peering inside of a little red house. When you walk inside the house, you can see the troll staring right at you from above. It's kind of scary since the troll is so big at 19 feet tall and the eyes follow you. Scary, but in a wholesome and fun kind of way!
Inside the little house is a poem on the wall that's too adorable not to share. The words are from the troll's perspective.
There's something in the air, that something makes my belly rumble.
Something smells so strong, it hits me, almost makes me stumble.
Could it be the little people, cooking something smelly.
In the big red cookie jar, so I can put them in the belly.
After taking some photos of the troll, we used the restroom inside of the Nordic Northwest building. The parking lot is also pretty large, so you can park there when checking out the troll. The Nordic Northwest building has a nice gift shop, nice restrooms, and a cafe. Of course, there's a lot more to this cultural center than what we saw, and you can see more on their website here.
Go here to see the website for the NW Trolls, to see all six and plan your visits. Our family had fun troll hunting the last few years and we're grateful to Thomas Dambo, the environmental artist who designed these trolls for our enjoyment.

I created a collage of all six of the photos I took of the trolls! Here they all are, in order of when we visited.
