We visited a Barlour with liquor-infused ice cream in Portland
A Night Owl Ice Cream Cocktail from Tipsy Scoop in Portland, OR.
If you're looking for a unique ice cream experience in Portland, check out Tipsy Scoop. Here you can order an ice cream cone with liquor-infused ice cream, ice cream cocktails, and even boozy flights and sundaes. You can sample the liquor-infused ice creams before making your selection. For those under 21 or choosing not to imbibe, there are ice cream flavors without alcohol.
Tipsy Scoop started in NYC in 2014 and was one of the first alcohol-infused ice companies in the world. Today there are 12 locations, or Barlours, as the company calls them, in the U.S. Tipsy Scoop is just right for Portland, since it's not your typical ice cream shop and the city is known for unique and eclectic food spots. Voodoo Doughnut and Salt and Straw started there, after all.
Upon walking in, I felt spoiled for choices. I couldn't decide what type of boozy ice cream I wanted to order, and in what style of drink or dessert. The employee was helpful, however, and walked us through the menu, and then got us samples of the ice cream. He pointed out the non-boozy ones to my sons and they each tried a flavor. Then we ordered them each a scoop in a waffle cone. One of my son's favorite flavors of ice cream is vanilla, so he had that with chocolate sprinkles. My other son had a scoop of Cookie Dough with chocolate sprinkles.
My favorite cocktail is an Espresso Martini, so the Spiked Hazelnut Coffee ice cream from the liquor-infused section caught my eye. I sampled it and loved it, so I decided to order an Ice Cream Cocktail, the Night Owl, which features this flavor. This cocktail has Cold Brew, Bailey's, and the Spiked Hazelnut Coffee boozy ice cream. It came in an adorable owl glass. I took a ton of photos, then I finally tried it. It reminded me of a mix between an Affagato and an Espresso Martini. This boozy treat was very yummy, and since I'm a huge coffee fan, I loved the flavors of this.
They also serve cocktails without ice cream, so my husband ordered a Inside the Toybox drink. It came in the cutest Lego mug, with a toy truck and candy Legos on the rim! This was a Gin-based drink, and it was fruity, and really sweet. They have couches and chairs with pillows, so we hung out and enjoyed our cocktails and ice cream. This was such a fun stop during our visit to Portland!
