An Afternoon at Alki Beach

Alki Beach in the summer is where it's at. With iconic Seattle views and a cloudless sky, you can't lose.

A whole summer had almost passed, and we hadn't visited Alki Beach yet. To make things right again, our family spent an afternoon dining with waterfront views, walking on the dock by the boat launch, hiking, playing on the beach and the nearby playground. Our first stop of the day was Marination Mai Kai, a local Hawaiian spot with outdoor seating and views of the skyline and Puget Sound.

This spot gets busy with lines out the door, so arriving for an early lunch is your best bet. We snagged a table outside and ordered cocktails from the outdoor bar. I had a POG juice with Rum. This Passion Fruit, Orange, and Guava juice is a classic Hawaiian drink, and tastes really refreshing. It made a fine cocktail, too. To eat I had the Kalua Pork Slides on Hawaiian Rolls and for dessert, some Shaved Iced. I got mine with Passion Fruit and Guava, along with some vanilla ice cream. It melted fast in the sun but still tasted so cold and creamy melted.

After lunch we walked a few feet to the boat launch area. You can walk on the long dock and watch the fishermen, trying to get the catch of the day. The views of Seattle are classic and oh so pretty, especially on a cloudless day. Then we went to the nearby Whale Tale Park where my sons love to play at the playground. Close by is the nature trail for Schmitz Preserve Park. This loop transports you into nature, into the trees, and you feel far from the city.  After walking through the forest, it was time to head to the beach and let the boys play in the water. They had their wading shoes on and created some summer memories playing in the waves near the shore.

If you haven't been to the beach yet this summer, I recommend taking advantage of the warm weather while it's still around! Alki Beach in Seattle is a top choice spot!
