A Fall Outing in South Seattle | A Visit to Empire Roasters and Records and Seward Park

A seasonal Ginger Snap Latte from Empire Roasters and Records in Columbia City.

Autumn is the perfect time to get a cup of coffee from a local roastery, take a stroll through a park, taking in the colors and breathing in fresh air. We visited Empire Roasters and Records for the first time. This Columbia City coffee house has four levels. The main floor, where you buy your coffee, the second floor which is a record store, a third floor with seating and a small arcade, and finally, a rooftop seating area.

I wanted a seasonal latte, so I chose a Ginger Snap Latte. It tasted just like the Ginger Snaps I remember from my childhood. The cookies I first tried one late autumn evening, feeling warm and comfy at home with my family, looking forward to the holidays around the corner. After I got my coffee, we checked out the floors above us. The record store level was chock full of records, with oldies but goodies, and also from current artists. The seating area had people sitting at every table, so we kept on moving.

A few minutes from Columbia City lies Seward Park. This park is striking all year long, but during the fall it feels magical. You're surrounded by Lake Washington, and the fall colors reflecting on the water. Every couple of steps is another opportunity to take another photo, because the fall colors seem fleeting this time of year, and you want to capture it all while you have the chance.

Grabbing a cup of coffee and taking a stroll through the park might seem so simple, but the best things in life usually are.
