Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. It was made with Cornmeal Waffles and came with hot sauce, syrup, and honey butter. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was nice a...

Lunch at La Palmera for Holiday Cocktails

The Frosty Margarita from La Palmera, one of their signature Christmas cocktails!

When I saw the holiday drink menu at La Palmera for this December, I knew I needed to pop by! We went last year for dinner and tried a couple of their festive cocktails. This year they have a new list of fun Christmas drinks. They do a great job decorating their restaurant and bar with lots of lights and decor. This chill spot in SLU has both good service, strong drinks, and solid Mexican food.

This time we sat in the bar for lunch. I ordered the Frosty Margarita which has tequila and coconut and is blended. This cocktail tasted like a beachy drink, but at Christmas time sitting under a lit-up palm tree. It was served in the cutest mug, too! I of course, took a ton of photos of it since I can't help myself with cute food and drink things! My husband got a Cadillac Margarita and to our surprise, arrived in a snowman mug.

Both drinks were strong, so luckily, we had some food to pair with them. Along with complimentary chips and salsa, we shared a Shredded Beef Chimichanga with rice and beans. This was plenty of food for us and we were impressed with the quality of the dish. The beef was tender and there was a nice amount of cheese on the Chimichanga.

This was such a fun lunch out with my husband. Definitely check La Palmera out for its quality Mexican food, holiday atmosphere, and super cute and festive drinks!
