Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. It was made with Cornmeal Waffles and came with hot sauce, syrup, and honey butter. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was nice a...

Happy Hour at Cypress Lounge and Wine Bar | Bellevue Westin

Bellevue, WA is the place to be this time of year! It can get really busy, so I suggest going out early and taking advantage of one of the many happy hours. Snowflake Lane starts every night at 7 pm and the crowds arrive in droves. We've seen this holiday event before and I really can't see much with all of the people. This year we arrived in Bellevue at around 4:30 and had an early happy hour meal inside the Westin hotel at Cypress Lounge and Wine Bar.

The light was beautiful when we crossed the street in front of Bell Square. I took a few shots of the lights and the drummer boys' decor they always have up for Snowflake Lane. The Westin is right across the street from Bell Square. And the lounge is through the lobby and to the left. Cypress Lounge and Wine Bar is all-ages and a typical hotel restaurant. They had a nice fireplace and some pretty holiday decor. They also have a seasonal cocktail menu, you just have to ask for it. From there I tried a Juniper Berry Mule, and my husband had a Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned.

Mine had Gin, Cranberry Juice, lime juice, and Ginger Beer. His had Woodford Reserve, Rosemary Simple Syrup, and Bitters. From the happy hour menu our family shared fries, Beef Rib Sliders, and a Margherita Flatbread which was a couple bucks off the regular price. I liked the sliders the best. The shredded beef was tender with a lot of sauce. The fries and flatbread were just ok. The vibes were nice here, pretty quiet and with a solid location in Bellevue. After eating, we walked around Bell Square, looked at the Christmas tree, and then we left since everywhere was getting packed!
