Dinner at Lost Lake Cafe

In Seattle's Capital Hill neighborhood, its as vibrant and full of energy as ever. New spots to grab a bite and sip a cocktail are opening all the time and the choices abound. Besides Starbucks, you won't find many national chains. So most restaurants, bars, and places to drink coffee and eat something sweet are unique and locally owned. Every time we head to the hill, we try something new.

Capital Hill isn't known for being really kid friendly, but like anything else if you do a little research, you can make it work. Lost Lake Café on 10th Ave is a fine choice because one, they have a nice kids menu, and two, they have a huge jar of toys for the kids to play with at the table. Score for us. They also have a full bar, so a double plus. Lost Lake is also really close to the playground, Cal Andersen Park. So for us, there's nothing better than playing at the park and then going out to eat. I do know how to pick the spots.

I started with a Mai Tai, because its Mai Tai season now, it being June and all. This Mai Tai was strong and really tasty. It was served in a Tiki Glass and was a gorgeous drink. Our boys each had the Clucks and Fries from the kids menu and my husband chose the Fish and Chips. It seems to be one of his favorite dishes and orders it at a lot of places. I wanted something light for my entrée because why else? There was pie on the menu. I chose the Summer Mezze Plate which had hummus, olive tapenade, veggies, and cracker bread for dipping. The flavors were bright and fresh and well, you can never go wrong with hummus and cracker bread, right?

The service was a little touch and go, but not that bad. You're in Capital Hill where things are casual, so just go with the flow. So back to the pie. Lost Lake serves pie from A la Mode Pies, a local pie place with multiple locations which I've eaten before and liked. You can see the post from my visit here. I was in the mood for a slice of Cherry pie and luckily they had some. I asked for it a la mode, of course, with a scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. The cherries were a little less sweet than I like but the crust was nice and flakey. Then it was time to get the check and head out into the city, soaking up the vibe and energy of the spring night.
