A Visit to Port Angeles, WA
A Strawberry cone with real fruit, swirled in-store from Welly's!
During our overnight to Sequim, we drove to Port Angeles, which is around twenty miles west. The population is around 20,000 people. We had never hung out in Port Angeles before, so we were excited to check this sea port town out. We had lunch first at Smugglers Bar and Grill. The vibes were lacking, but luckily the food was on point. It was really quiet and their interior was dated. But we enjoyed out food and cocktails, so we didn't really mind.
They had fruity, tropical drinks on the menu, so my husband and I each chose one. I had the Ruby Flush, which had Ruby Red Vodka, Triple Sec, orange juice, and grenadine. He had a Georgia Peach which had Vodka, Peach Schnapps, grenadine, and lemonade. The drinks were nice and strong, which was good since it took the food a while to arrive. My boys chose a Grilled Cheese and the Shrimp and Chips from the kid's menu. I had the Not Your Mother's Mac and Cheese. And my husband had a Fish Sandwich with fries. My Mac and Cheese was cheesy, warm, and filling, everything you want this dish to be. It was a huge serving, so my son helped me finish it.
After lunch, we got some ice cream at Welly's. Welly's Real Fruit Ice Cream is located right next to Smugglers. Their ice cream is New Zealand style. It's swirled into soft serve in front of you. They first take some Vanilla ice cream and swirl your choice of fruit into it. I chose strawberry. I also chose a waffle cone. It was fun watching them swirl the ice cream. We all shared one since we were stuffed from lunch.
Then we walked around a bit and saw the Port Angeles Farmer's Market. They had lots of local vendors. Then we walked back to our car and drove back to Sequim. A fun fact about Port Angeles is this is where they filmed part of the first Twilight movie. It was cool seeing some of the parts of town from the movie. Of course, Forks, WA is where a lot of the movies were filmed. I'm not a huge Twilight fan, but this is where I'd go if I was.
The people in town were so friendly, and the area is pretty walkable. It's right on the water and definitely feels like Astoria and Newport, OR. There's lots of shops and waterfront dining. Definitely stop in and check it out if you're in the area!
