Drinks at Velvet Elk | An eclectic cocktail bar in Mt. Baker

Cocktails from the vibey Velvet Elk bar in Mt. Baker.

My husband and I recently visited Velvet Elk in Seattle's Mt. Baker neighborhood for a round of drinks. This dark bar is cozy and intimate, perfect for catching up over cocktails. There are two levels, the main floor with the bar and tables, and a loft upstairs with couches and additional seating. There's some fun vintage decor upstairs to check out like a Polaroid camera and an old school phone. There's even an acoustic guitar if you feel like jamming. There are also board games, and decks of cards to play downstairs. You can rent out the entire bar, so they do close occasionally for special events. Be sure to check out their website before visiting. They have a very limited food menu with Taquitos and Vegan Corn Dogs.

We sat ourselves at a cozy corner table for two by the window. We each tried a cocktail from their signature drink menu. I tried a bourbon forward drink which featured bacon washed bourbon. It was very similar to an Old Fashioned. My husband's drink was similar to a Manhattan but much more oaky. There is no drink or food menu available on their website or online, so I can't recall our drink names. I liked looking at the decor like the elk mount and the antler chandelier while I sipped my drink.

This eclectic cocktail bar feels hidden in the sleepy South Seattle neighborhood, making it feel like a speakeasy. Since their food menu is so limited, this bar is perfect for grabbing a round of drinks before or after dinner.
