Drinks at Persephone in Columbia City

My Black Manhattan with Rye from Persephone, the bar and Italian store next to La Medusa.

My husband and I were researching where to grab a drink in Columbia City, and we saw Persephone. This charming and cozy bar is connected to the local Italian spot La Medusa. They have amaro and bitters served neat, or ice, or with soda water. When you walk into Persephone you'll see the Italian market with a large assortment of wines for sale. Just keep walking towards the back and you'll spot the bar with plenty of seating.

We ate at La Medusa ten years ago, and you can see my post right here. They feature Mediterranean dishes using the PNW's freshest ingredients. Their menu board changes with the seasons. We had a really positive experience there, so we figured we'd also enjoy their bar next door. We were right! Persephone was really cute and it felt like we were transported to the Italian coast, with a spritz in hand.

The bartender was really knowledgeable about all of the Italian Amaro and Bitters. He recommended Black Manhattans for us, one with Rye and the other with Bourbon so we could try each other's drink. My cocktail looked and tasted like an Aperol Spritz. Mine was the one with Rye. My husband's drink with Bourbon was dark and herbaceous. I preferred my drink to his, but I thought both were flavorful and enjoyable.

The bar quickly filled up around us, as this is the area diners wait for their table at La Medusa. They do have small plates, if you want something to pair with your drink or something to nibble on before your dinner next door. I suggest checking out this hidden Columbia City bar, especially if you enjoy Italian cocktails in a warm and comfy setting!
