Lunch at Matador in West Seattle
The Quesabirria tacos from The Matador! These are corn tortillas with Monterey Jack, beef birria, roasted poblanos, and onions.
The Matador is a lively Mexican spot located in West Seattle's Junction area. This is a restaurant and bar and is 21 and over. We visited a couple of times back before we had kids, but I didn't take photos and blog about our experience. The Mexican-inspired menu has classic dishes along with some unique plates such as Bacon-wrapped jalapeños stuffed with goat cheese and a Dip Flight featuring a cheese queso, black bean, and fresh guacamole.
My husband and I visited for lunch. I started with a Smoked Cinnamon Old Fashioned. It was topped with a flamed cinnamon stick. The cocktail was really strong, and I loved its smoky flavor. He enjoyed a Passionfruit Margarita. We shared two food items. We had the Quesabirria and the Grilled Stuffed Jalapeños. The Jalapenos were a nice surprise. They were fresh and spicy, and wrapped in a lot of bacon! The Quesabirria Tacos were good, and they came with a side of birria jus, which tasted like a light salsa, and not the traditional consommé I'm used to with this item.
The service here is warm and hospitable, and we like the old world, dim decor. Check out the Matador for a date night or girls' night for strong cocktails and yummy sharable plates!
