The NW Folklife Festival 2025
The Sweetheart Special from Chimney Cakes Seattle at the NW Folklife Festival! This Chimney Cake had a Cinnamon Sugar Topping, a Nutella filling, and was topped with strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. One of the best things I've eaten in a long time.
It's festival season in Seattle! This weekend is Memorial Day weekend, so that means it's the NW Folklife Festival at Seattle Center. Our family goes most years, and we love walking around, trying festival foods, and people watching. This year we tried some unique food and some classic dishes, too. We started with some Pad Thai with a chicken skewer from the Thai Street Food booth by the International Fountain. It was a little spendy at $20 for one portion and the skewer. The noodles were just ok, and my husband liked the chicken.
Next up, we shared a sandwich from the Raclette booth. Raclette is a Swiss style of melting cheese from a huge block and scraping it onto bread, pickles, potatoes, and more. We've tried this before at the Vancouver Christmas Market, and it was a unique experience to watch it being made. We chose the Prosciutto sandwich, which is a baguette with prosciutto, arugula, cornichons, and a Dijon mustard. After the sandwich was made, they scraped the hot, melted cheese on top. The sandwich was great and tasted really fresh. She put a lot of Raclette, melted cheese, on top and it was much appreciated! I highly recommend trying Raclette.
For something sweet I got a Chimney Cake from Chimney Cakes Seattle. We've tried these classic Hungarian Pastries twice before at other places and they were incredible. I chose the Sweetheart Special. It was filled with Nutella, strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream. This dessert was one of the best treats I've eaten in a while! It was super messy, but worth it!
Lastly, my sons wanted another dessert, so they chose some mini doughnuts. They each got their own dozen mini doughnuts. One son got the Powdered Sugar and the other ordered the Trix are for kids doughnuts. These were covered in Trix cereal, vanilla frosting, and whipped cream. They loved their doughnuts and were the perfect ending to our time at the festival.
We enjoyed hanging out at Seattle Center for the festival. We also played at the Imagination Playground. The Space Needle debuted their new elevators yesterday. They now have glass elevators on all four, making it an even more immersive experience when riding up and down to the observation deck. The elevators were glass before, but now the windows are even bigger, creating better views for the ride. I got some shots of the tower with the elevators. In the last photo here, you can see the new glass on the elevators.
