A Visit to Taco City Taqueria for their Valentine's Day Pop-Up
When I saw Taco City Taqueria in Columbia City was doing a V-Day Pop Up and I saw how cute the photos were, I wanted to go! We've dined there a few times in the past, but it had been a few years. The space always felt pretty no-thrills with limited decor. The cocktails, while strong, came in plastic cups. They have certainly stepped it up now, with Valentine's Decor everywhere and even five new signature Valentine's cocktails to choose from in unique glasses! I've always liked this spot, since this was the first place I tried Birria Tacos, one of my favorite dishes.
I ordered a Tropical Love Affair which is a frozen cocktail with coconut, strawberry, and pineapple. I'm not sure what kind of alcohol it had since it wasn't listed. This was so refreshing and delicious and tasted like a vacation on an island somewhere. I loved the festive heart-shaped cup, which is perfect for the upcoming holiday!
My son and I shared the Birria Tacos, and the order comes with four tacos. For $4 they will split the order and give you each two tacos with your own Consommé for dipping. We loved these Birria Tacos, filled with shredded beef, melted cheddar, and onions. The Consommé brings all of the flavors together perfectly, making these tacos so mouthwatering and satisfying.
The decor around the restaurant was so cool, with tons of photo and selfie opportunities. They did a great job with their V-Day Pop-Up, and it makes me wonder if they'll do this for all of the holidays!?

You’re absolutely right about the earlier days. We actually opened during COVID, and like many small businesses at the time, we were operating under a lot of limitations and uncertainty. Using plastic cups and keeping décor minimal was a necessity back then, not a reflection of how much we cared — just how we had to adapt to survive.
Now that we’re on the other side of those uncertain times, we’ve been excited to really step into our creativity, elevate the experience, and bring the fun, festive energy you saw during the Valentine’s Pop-Up ✨
