A Mid-Winter Aloha event in Georgetown | Trying Mike's Shave Ice

This Shave Ice from Mike's Shave Ice tasted like Hawaii and sunshine, just what the doctor ordered for a January Seattle day!

I got to experience a little aloha spirit on a sunny Saturday in Seattle! Today in Georgetown, the Japanese store Maruta held a Mid-Winter Aloha event featuring local Hawaiian businesses. We love Maruta for its sushi and snacks, and it's one of our fav stores in the area. The event was packed with hour long lines for a couple of the vendors.

I waited an hour for shave ice at Mike's Shave Ice, and it was so worth it! They're a local family-owned spot selling authentic Hawaiian shave ice, and they do pop-ups. I'd never tried shave ice from there, so I knew I had to get in line. I waited so long I even made friends with the family in front of me. They were also locals and we even knew some of the same people in Seattle, so that was an added bonus to the day.

They ran out of a few things because of how busy they were. I chose the Strawberry Mango Sugo Shave Ice. This had all-natural Strawberry syrup, mango syrup, and it was topped with Haupia (coconut cream), mixed with Sago (tapioca pearls) fresh cut mangos, and four pieces of mochi. This was awesome! You could taste the quality of the syrups and fruit. This was very sharable, too, since the size was big! I haven't had shave ice in Hawaii yet, but this is similar to what you find on the islands.

I'm glad I attended this event today and tried Mike's Shave Ice. Aloha!
