Celebrating Dia De Muertos at Seattle Center
Yesterday and today is Dia de Muertos (Day of the Dead). It is celebrated for the first two days of November. You can see my post here about the holiday from my Sugar Skull cookie post from a few days ago. The Seattle Center Armory has a Dia de Muertos festival which we checked out yesterday.
I was happy to see so many ofrendas (alters) to look at. There was also live music, food and merchandise to buy. There was even more ofrendas upstairs, along with lots of arts and crafts to buy. We really liked the dark walk-through area, full of marigolds, candles, and graves. You could feel the hushed remembrance, along with the cultural celebration of these two days. There was even face painting, and this had a really long line.
Have you ever celebrated Dia de Muertos, or is it part of your culture? We learned about it in High School in Spanish class. I love the colors, the celebrations, and remembrance for those who have passed away. This event at Seattle Center is free and held every year.
