A Harry Potter Movie Night

 

A spellbinding movie night at home! Harry Potter themed treats from Target and a viewing of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. 

It's the 25th anniversary of the Harry Potter films so we watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at home with themed food and drinks. The first movie came to theaters in November 2021. This week on September 9th, Target released a line of Harry Potter candy, so we went and bought a few items to go along with the movie. I also tried making my own Butterbeer, plus we had roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn like they eat in the film. Since Harry has a birthday in the movie and Haggard gives him a cake, we ate some mini cupcakes for dessert. 

At Target I bought a chocolate frog which came in a blue box and contained one trading card. It was very similar to what you can buy at Universal Studios, but the frog was milk chocolate, and we thought it tasted better than the one we bought at the theme park. The frog is solid chocolate and hard to eat, but it's a very fun and whimsical candy. In the movie, Harry gets a box just like it on the Hogwarts Express, but when he opens it, a real frog jumps out. 

We also tried some Candy Floss (Cotton Candy), and the jar had both green and pink inside. The jar is pretty cool and I'm going to use it to store some pens. The third Target item we tried were the Chocolate Cockroach Clusters. There were three chocolate-shaped bugs, and they were filled with caramel and pecans. These were the best and tastiest out of the three items we tried! 

To make my own Butterbeer I used a can of Olipop Cream Soda, sugar free whipped cream, and melted butterscotch chips. These were the only items I could find at Target, but you should use Butterscotch sauce instead of the chips. I melted the chips and they hardened up too fast in the drink. The Olipop wasn't sweet enough, I would look for a different brand of Cream Soda next time. This was still fun to create, and I can't wait for my next Butterbeer in the theme park or Harry Potter store someday! 

We had fun watching the Harry Potter movie while eating our dinner and trying the different themed candy and ending on another sweet not with the cupcakes.
