Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. 49th Parallel Coffee and Lucky's Doughnuts

There's just something about treating yourself to doughnuts on vacation. Calories don't seem to count as much. And in a place like Vancouver, BC, there's lots of delicious sounding options.

Nothing goes with doughnuts better than coffee, so 4th Parallel Coffee is doing things right. When you're traveling, its usually a good plan to eat at the places where the lines are. Then you know its going to be good. We visited their location on Thurlow St. They also sell doughnuts from Lucky's Doughnuts. The flavors were really unique and looked plain awesome in the case.

I went with a Cold Brew Cruller which I have no regrets about. We also shared a drip coffee with cream and sugar. The doughnut tasted just like cold brew coffee which is a flavor I'd never experienced in a doughnut before. It was big and perfect for sharing with my husband, since we'd already had breakfast. The Crullers I'd eaten in the past were dried out, but not this one.

The coffee was really high quality and you can tell they source and roast it themselves. I'm glad 49th Parallel was so close to our hotel, about a ten minute walk, so it was the perfect thing to do before checking out.
