Happy Hour at Luc

I won't lie, we ordered eleven items at Luc.  I felt like I was in heaven, dining on their patio while I felt the last rays of summer, sipping some peach sparkling wine and eating french food.  It just doesn't get any better than this, I thought as I kept on eating and drinking and ordering more plates of food.  Whoever thought of Happy Hour is awesome.  Pretty much all restaurants have them now and if you don't mind having dinner kind of early, like before 6 pm, then you're in luck and you can try so many dishes and cocktails for a pretty decent price.  Everything on the happy hour menu at Luc is five bucks. So you try so many things and not do too much damage.

Luc is located in the green, leafy neighborhood of Madison Park.  The owner and chef is James Beard Award-winner Thierry Rantureau, also known as The Chef in the Hat.  Rover, his other restaurant, is nearby.  He was also just on Top Chef Masters Season Four.

My dining companion tonight, my husband, and I both started off with the Avive Peach Sparkling Wine.  A delicious summer drink, sweet, tart and just right.

Then we ordered some Columbia City Bakery bread with Moroccan Olives.

We ordered a couple of salads, this is the Boston Lettuce with toasted walnuts and a wine red vinaigrette.

The other green salad is the Chicken Salad Lettuce Cup with coriander aioli and pickled vegetables.

While we were polishing off our salads, our lovely server brought out the Smoked Salmon Tartine with herb goat cheese.

Then it was time for round two on our drinks.  At three bucks for a house red, I couldn't resist.

My husband ordered the Luctini Cocktail.  We loved the orange flavoring of the drink.

We were still hungry after the small salads and salmon so we got the French Fries with Harissa Aioli and the Grilled Steak Onglet.  The steak had tomatillo puree, pickled chillis and confit tomato.  It was three very small pieces of steak, but when dining like this with a lot of plates, a couple bites is perfect.

Finally, for dessert, we shared the special of the night-the blackberry peach cobbler with ice cream.

You can never go wrong with eating fresh, hot cobbler right out of the oven.
