Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. It was made with Cornmeal Waffles and came with hot sauce, syrup, and honey butter. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was nice a...

A night out in Queen Anne during the holidays

Our family wanted to check out the annual Seattle Center Winterfest but we wanted to grab some dinner first. There's lots of options for dining in and around Seattle Center. We chose The 5 Point Cafe on Cedar St. They're a 24 hour diner and tavern and they've been open since 1929. We were lucky to snag a cozy table by the window. 5 Point will take you back to the 90's when the grunge scene ruled Seattle. My husband and I had one of our first dates here so there was a little nostalgia.

We decided to get Black Opals to kick the night off. It was also happy hour and the appetizer prices are super cheap. I chose their Dick Burger with fries for only $3.50 and the Jalepeno Poppers for $4. Our sons shared the short stack of pancakes. My husband went light with soup and salad. The Jalapeno Poppers ended up being huge and really spicy. I only ate two out of three of them. These will put some pep in your step for sure. They were filled with jalapenos and not much else. I shared my burger and fries with rest of the family, but the burger reminded me too much of the one at the Golden Arches. The pancakes were gigantic and I'm glad the boys shared an order. There was Christmas music playing and they had the place decked out for the holidays. It was a fun and enjoyable dinner out.

We headed across the street to Seattle Center. We wanted to see the train and village display in the Center House. The train wasn't running since it was after 6:30, so we grabbed some hot cocoa from Starbucks. My Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate tasted so good and just like Christmas!
