Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

  Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. Seattle Sweet Week 2015 | Cupcake Royale

This was the second year of Seattle Sweet Week and I just had to check it out again.  Last year for Sweet Week I visited Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery in Ballard.  The event showcases local bakeries, chocolate and ice cream shops and they create a unique dessert for one week only, for five dollars.  Who would want to pass that up?  We drove in rush hour traffic, with a cold, in pouring rain to get our treat at Cupcake Royale.  And you bet it was worth it.  When I walked in I saw so many mouthwatering cupcakes but no signage for Seattle Sweet Week.  So I asked and they had it available.  Their special dessert was Buttered Popcorn and Caramel Crunch Cookie with buttered popcorn and peanut crunch ice cream, and Kukuruza Hawaiian sea salted caramel corn.  I loved the presentation and of course, the taste.  The caramel corn was unbelievable and could be very addicting.  The ice cream was super creamy and sweet and the little cupcake was moist and the frosting so perfect.  I loved how small everything was.  It was just a taste so you didn't feel like a pig.  My family ate most of it.  I share.  Yes, I'm nice like that.  I can't wait till next year to see what's featured at my favorite sweet shops!
