Mother's Day Weekend Brunch at The Garrison

Two mouthwatering brunch dishes from The Garrison in Ballard.  For Mother's Day weekend, my family and I dined at The Garrison . This is a locally owned Oyster and Seafood house located in Ballard. I started with a Sunset Espresso Martini. This had Amaro, Licor 43, Cold Brew, and Boomsma Herbal. I didn't really enjoy their version of the drink, and I should have known by reading the ingredients it would be different than the classic cocktail made with espresso. Unfortunately, we didn't really care for my husband's drink, an Almond Croissant Sidecar either. This had a bunch of ingredients and featured Cognac, but we didn't find it very tasty. He did however order a Manhattan later in the meal, and this classic martini was much better.  My sons shared the Chicken and Waffles. This was a pretty standard version of the classic brunch dish. It was made with Cornmeal Waffles and came with hot sauce, syrup, and honey butter. The chicken was seasoned nicely and was nice a...

Peanut Butter Cookies with Chocolate Hearts

I hope you're having a fun day filled with love and that you're hanging out with your favorite people.  To me, Valentine's Day has never been about receiving fancy gifts but who I'm spending the day with.  If I can eat some chocolate, that's even better.  Today I baked some peanut butter cookies with heart shaped Dove chocolates and my husband was the taste taster.  We both loved the melted chocolate on top of the gooey, soft cookie.

I found the recipe from The Hungry Housewife

Peanut Butter Cookies with Chocolate Hearts

Ingredients

  • 1¾ cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • ¾ cup Smooth Peanut Butter
  • 3 tablespoons Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Egg
  • 1¾ cup Flour
  • ¾ teaspoon Baking Soda
  • ¾ teaspoon Salt
  • 2 8.87oz. packages Dove Milk Chocolate Silky Smooth Heart Promises, unwrapped
  • Granulated Sugar, for rolling cookies

  •
    Directions

    Preheat oven to 350.
Line cookie sheet with parchment paper or non stick foil.
In a medium bowl, with an electric mixer, cream together the brown sugar and butter together.
Mix in the peanut butter, milk and vanilla extract.
Add the egg and beat until combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt.
Mix in the dry ingredients into the peanut butter mixture and beat until thoroughly incorporated.
Form into 1½ tablespoon balls and roll in granulated sugar.
Place on baking sheet about 1″ apart and bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and gently press one Dove Heart into the middle of each cookie and place back into the oven and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool on cookies sheet for 2 minutes.
Remove from cookie sheet and allow to cool on a cooling rack completely.

The original recipe says it makes 49 cookies but I only got 30.  I must have made mine too big.  I bought only one bag of Dove Chocolates so it worked out fine.
