An invite to Alder and Ash | lunch at Alder and Ash in Downtown Seattle
Alder and Ash is located in downtown Seattle on the corner of 7th and Pike. They serve New American cuisine and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This upscale bar and grill is located on the ground level of the Sheridan Grand Hotel.
I was invited by the sweet people at Alder and Ash to come try their food. I was also able to bring a guest, so I brought my husband, and we had lunch. Alder and Ash opened in spring of this year, and they recently renovated their space. They are a brasserie in the heart of downtown Seattle and they serve New American cuisine, featuring local ingredients.
Our server was Viv, and he was so helpful and friendly. He informed us about the menu, telling us that a lot of the items feature seafood from Pike Place Market. The menu also changes with each season. You can tell just by looking at the menu a lot of care and insight goes into each item. I was excited to try some of the delicious sounding things.
We each started with a cocktail. I had an Alder Wood. This drink was similar to an Old Fashioned and had bourbon, Amaro Montenegro, Benedictine, and finally, some Alder Wood smoke. This was the smoothest Old Fashioned ever, probably because of the Amaro. It had a smokey flavor, which balanced so well with the bourbon. My husband had a Painkiller, which he really enjoyed. This cocktail is a twist on a Pina Colada and has rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cream of coconut. We also shared a Spicy Pineapple Margarita.
We each ordered an appetizer and we shared both of them. We selected the Caramelized Onion Dip and the Caviar Tots. The food at Alder and Ash is all made in-house, so we knew the quality would be top notch. We weren't disappointed at all by the flavors. Both appetizers were mouthwatering and the perfect start to our lunch. The Caviar Tots had Yukon Gold Potatoes, which are soaked all night, creme fraiche, and keta salmon caviar. If you like fish, you'll love this dish. This was such a unique item and so delicious. The Caramelized Onion Dip was so creamy, and you could taste how fresh it was.
After enjoying our cocktails and devouring our appetizers, we settled on our entrees. We ordered two items to share. We chose the Goat Cheese Gnocchi and the Ahi Tuna Poke. The serving sizes are large, just right for two people to share or to take the rest home and enjoy later. You really can't go wrong here, since the food tastes so good, and the prices aren't too high for the quality. They even have a daily happy hour with $10 food items. But back to our entrees! The Gnocchi came highly recommended by Viv. It sounded too good to pass up. The dish ended up being such a rich and decadent pasta and if you love goat cheese like I do, you'll love this. It had a tasty pistachio basil pesto sauce, along with some marinated tomatoes.
The Ahi Tuna Poke was a big portion, and the large bowl was full of rice, edamame, avocado, cucumber kimchi, sesame, and chili aioli. The dish was full of flavor and once again, we could taste how fresh it was!
Then it was time to try some dessert. Their pastry chef has a true passion for desserts and creating delicious and unique items. It was hard to decide what dessert to try! But we settled on some Pistachio Soft Serve to share. The serving was huge, and it had Lavender Pistachios and a honey drizzle. The soft serve was the perfect texture and I wish I had more room in my stomach to finish the whole bowl. But by this point in the meal, we were stuffed to the brim.
We had such an awesome meal! Thanks to Alder and Ash for having us! Definitely check them out in downtown Seattle for yummy brunch, lunch, dinner, or happy hour.
