Happy Hour at Cheers! Hong Kong
So beary cute! This cocktail was the Cheers! Hong Kong cocktail and was similar to a Long Island Iced Tea. We loved the cute ice cube bear on top!
If you enjoy eating Hong Kong style comfort food, check out Cheers! Hong Kong, located on Broadway in Capitol Hill. The menu consists of classic Dim Sum dishes, along with unique twists on Bao Buns, and comfort food you'd find in a Hong Kong cafe. They have stand-out drinks such as a Lychee Old Fashioned, and a Mai Tai served in a boot glass. This spot opened last year, and I'd seen positive things on social media about the food and drinks. Their interior is reminiscent of a lively Hong Kong Cafe. The huge photo on the wall of the city skyline makes the room pop and transports you to Hong Kong.
Since we arrived before 6 pm, it was still happy hour. The cocktails are $4 less during this time, and there's also some deals on food. I started with a Mai Tai and my husband had a Lychee Old Fashioned. Both drinks were just $9. I also wanted to try the Lemon Iced Tea, since it comes with an iced bear in the glass. The iced tea is presented in a carafe to pour it yourself. It was fun to watch the bear disappear as we poured the tea into the glass. The tea was refreshing and paired well with the variety of dishes we ordered. The Mai Tai was fun to drink out of the tall boot glass, and it also tasted good with our dishes.
My husband also ordered the Cheers! Hong Kong cocktail and we were happily surprised to see another adorable, iced bear floating on top. This drink was also so refreshing and tasted like a spiked tea with lemon, or a Long Island Iced Tea. We ordered quite a few dishes for ourselves and our sons. They started with some Chinese Donuts, which arrived with a dish of Sweetened Condensed Milk for dipping. I wasn't fast enough to take a photo of this dish before they grabbed them and happily polished them off.
A unique Dim Sum dish we tried were the BBQ Pork Volcano Buns. These were bright orange and filled with a savory BBQ Pork. These buns didn't blow me away, but they had a nice presentation. Then we received our BBQ Pork Hombow. I ordered these for my son, but he didn't care for them. BBQ Pork buns aren't my favorite either, so my husband happily ate these. Next, we got our HK Classic Bao. These had pork and a black bean sauce. I really enjoyed these. The pork tasted like duck and the meat was really tender and flavorful. The bao was nice and soft, a good contrast to the tender and savory meat.
My son wanted to order the Pork Dill Dumplings but ended up not liking the dill part. They were a little heavy on the dill, but they still tasted good to me. Finally, we tried the Sweet-Sour Pork Ribs. These were tender pieces of meat and had a really nice sauce. They were pretty easy to eat off the bone. This was a perfect way to end our meal, since my husband and I liked this dish the most.
We really enjoyed our dinner at Cheers! Hong Kong and we were delighted with the unique drinks and dishes! The atmosphere was fun, and the service was also great.
The Lychee Old Fashioned and the Mai Tai.
