A little over two hours from Seattle is Sequim, WA, located on the Olympic Peninsula. This is the perfect weekend or overnight trip from Seattle. We hadn't visited in two years, and since we have family there, we decided to go and visit for one night.
Since Sequim is the lavender capital of the U.S, there are tons of farms there. Lavender grows there in abundance because of the rich, loose soil and the amount of sun the area receives. In all my times visiting Sequim, we'd never checked out a lavender farm. We checked out Jardin Du Soleil. They have a farm shop where they sell lavender products and even lavender ice cream. There's also goats, chickens, and peacocks. The lavender is on ten acres, and the farm was started in 1999.
Upon stepping out of our car, we could smell the fragrant lavender right away. After seeing the cute animals and smelling the lavender, we went inside the gift shop. This farm shop was adorable and filled to the brim with amazing lavender products. I ended up spending a bit of money on wonderful smelling candles, stickers, a souvenir pin, and some lavender ice cream. The ice cream tasted incredible. The texture was really creamy, and the lavender flavor was subtle and not overly floral tasting. Jardin Du Soleil was such a cute lavender farm and I'm glad we checked it out!
For dinner we ate with our family at
Tedesco's Italian Fresh. This Italian spot in downtown Sequim has an upscale and contemporary feel, serving both traditional and modern dishes. Here we enjoyed a delicious New Yorker pizza topped with pepperoni, sausage, basil, and ricotta. My husband ordered the Maple Duck Breast. This dish was a pan-seared duck breast in a with a Port Glace Viande sauce. Our family really liked their Lasagna and Ravioli dishes. This spot is a solid option for Italian cuisine in Sequim.
We checked out the Sequim Farmers Market. This lively event full of local vendors is every Saturday in the summer from 9-2 pm. I purchased some Lavender Essential Oil from
OceanSide Nursery.
For lunch after the Saturday Farmers Market, we ate at
Old Mill Cafe. Located outside of Sequim in Calsborg, is a home-style cafe serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here you'll find a rustic and country decor. While you wait for your food, you can make a game of counting how many sawblades you see, like we did. They even have a full bar, and my husband got the biggest Long Island Iced Tea we've ever seen. This baby was 32 ounces and really packed a punch. I enjoyed a cocktail with Malibu Rum, cranberry and pineapple juice. It was so refreshing, and I loved the coconut rum flavor.
To eat I ordered Coconut Battered Chicken Strips with a Thai Chilli Sauce. These were tasty and reminded me of the Coconut Battered Shrimp, which I always got as a kid. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the coating was nice and crispy. Since they have a kid's menu, our sons ordered some Mini Cheeseburgers and Waffle Fries. My husband really liked his Pulled Pork Sandwich.
We would definitely return to the cafe where the service is friendly, the portions are large, and the cocktails are top notch.
After lunch at Old Mill Cafe, we stopped for a coffee at
RedDog Coffee. This is an espresso stand with a drive-thru, but they do have a walk-up window and large patio. I enjoyed an Iced Spicy Chai Latte with Oat Milk. It was made well and very yummy!
The ferry ride back to Seattle was so scenic and the summer day was a nice one! The views of the skyline were so pretty!
We had such an enjoyable visit to Sequim to visit our family, dine at some good spots, and check out the local attractions!
