Lunch at The Desoto Grill in Kalispell, MT
Looking for good BBQ in the Kalispell area? Check out Desoto Grill, in the downtown part of town. This BBQ spot is located in an old 1910 blacksmith shop. The couple who owns the restaurant have a pretty sweet story involving a love for hot rods and lots of BBQ experience. The Desoto Grill was named after a 1954 Desoto Powermaster which the owner's grandpa and mentor owned. You can read the whole story here on their website.
The restaurant's interior was chock full of quirky mementos on the walls, and the blacksmith shop gives it a rustic feel, which is so fitting for BBQ cuisine. Locals love this spot and it gets packed. They have outdoor seating, too, for summer days. We went for lunch and were seated right away. They don't have a full bar, but they do sell beer and wine. I sipped a Prosecco and my husband had a Mac and Jack's beer. We split the Beef Brisket Sandwich. The brisket is smoked for 14 hours. The sandwich also came with Mac and Cheese. You can choose from several options. We selected the Smoky Bacon Mac and Cheese. The sandwich was big, so I'm glad we shared.
The brisket was nice and tender, but it needed a little more salt and BBQ sauce, which they have at each table. I had no complaints about the brisket once I added what I needed. The Mac and Cheese was pretty much perfect, one of the best restaurant ones I've tried. I liked the smokiness from the bacon and the small pieces of bacon. This was a fun and enjoyable lunch. I thought the building was cool, and I'll never say no to brisket and mac and cheese!
